Paul was born in southern California, and came to SFAI in 1986 to study printmaking. He was a talented artist and a good friend to those who cared about him. He was fun, friendly, and an all-around good guy. Angels were a recurring motif in his work, and he also enjoyed playing with ornamental elements in his prints, like decorative borders or repeating patterns.

He spent his last days at home with his loving family, Ann & Ray Gubser, sister Gail Gubser and brothers Greg and Adam Gubser. His niece, Olivia Gubser, whom he never met, attended SFAI many years later. He was a wonderful man.

The South Bay Daily Breeze newspaper did a story about Paul and his amazingly supportive family which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize: “Paul’s Last Days,” South Bay Daily Breeze, Sunday, November 22, 1987.
